Project (finished)

It's done, it's finally done. And... I love it.

It only took two and a half months; not too bad.
I'm in love with the color, especially against the yellow walls.
I especially love it because I worked on it and made it my own.
I love the knobs from Hobby Lobby and the baskets from World Market.
I love that all of our DVD's and 360 games fit in the side cabinets.

Speaking of color, have you noticed that Utah is lacking a lot of it? I like checking out new subdivisions that are being built whenever I'm out and about and it seems like every new house around here is brown. Why do people want their houses to blend in with the dirt and the mountains? What happened to the cute red, blue, or yellow houses? Or even white houses with bright colored shutters and doors? My great grandparents lived in a pink house when I was growing up and I have fond memories of it to this day. I feel like everything is getting boring, cookie cutter, the same.

I discovered that for me, color is essential and it makes me happy. A lot of my home decor is brown and I am in the process of changing it over (slowly but surely). I want to walk into a room and have it fill me up with brightness and happiness when I turn on the lights; brown hasn't done that for me. I'm starting with this TV stand; it's small but it already brightens my day when I walk in the room.

How cute are these houses?
It would be so refreshing to see more of this around here; no brown in sight:)

It Makes Me Think

There is a website a friend of mine put me on to. It's called Makes Me Think. People can write about little things (or big things) that happen to them in their lives that, like the name implies, make you think. I started reading it today and it has already made me think of many things that I think are worth thinking about. Check it out and see if there is anything there that makes you think, too.

Summer

Adelaide decided to run through the sprinklers
while I watered the lawn last night.
I love this picture of her. I love summer.

A Long and Winding Road

I have a fascination with paths, trails, roads, or anything that seems to wind itself between beautiful things. I love to go hiking and I think it's because of a few reasons, but one is that I love to see what the path looks like that is taking me to my destination. We hiked to the hotpots up Diamond Fork Canyon yesterday and it was beautiful. The sky was a gorgeous blue, the leaves and weeds were brilliantly green, the trail was rocky, and the river was deep and swift. It smelled like sulfur, but even that couldn't detract from the beauty around it.

I can't help but compare it to life (as many have done before me). As you hike along, you are excited to see what is around the next bend, but at the same time cautious because you have no way of knowing what might be there when you arrive. However, you keep going because you want something so badly and you deal with whatever comes your way. You may trip on some rocks that slow you down or lead you down the wrong path; you just take a drink of water and pick up your feet.

I took some pictures (granted I am no photographer) and some turned out lovely. But a camera can in no way capture the scene as I perceived it standing on the path.

"The long and winding road that leads to your door
Will never disappear,
I've seen that road before it always leads me here,
Leads me to your door."
